Wrexham Manager Remains Tight-Lipped on Matias Moreno Transfer Speculation

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson remains silent regarding rumors linking the Championship club to defender Matias Moreno. Reports indicate that the north Wales team has reached an agreement with Italian club Fiorentina for the 22-year-old Argentine.

However, Parkinson declined to comment on the speculation. “I think if we end up signing every player we’re linked with, we’d have about 40 players in the building just now,” he stated. “From our point of view, we’re concentrating on the lads we’ve got.”

Wrexham is preparing for its second season in the Championship, having narrowly missed out on the play-offs in May. Parkinson emphasized the importance of focusing on the squad that was assembled last year, aiming to build on last season’s performance and maximize each player’s potential.

“At the moment, if the right player comes available and we feel they’re going to enhance this group, then obviously we’ll make a move,” he added. “A lot of that work was done last season, and if there are some additions, they’ll be ones we feel can really improve us, obviously.”

Wrexham kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 0-0 draw away against Polish side Wisla Krakow last Saturday. Parkinson expressed satisfaction with the match, which allowed 22 players to participate for a half each.

“It’s making sure that we get the minutes in players,” he explained. “When it is only a 45-minute game for the individuals, then we can train harder leading into it and then straight after when we get back because there’s not that need for the second day recovery.”

As Wrexham prepares for their match against Manchester United at Helsinki’s Olympic Stadium this Saturday, Parkinson noted that the team has two more days of training before heading out to Finland.

Next week, the club will travel to the United States to face Leeds United in Tampa on Sunday, July 26, followed by a match against Liverpool in New York four days later. The final pre-season match is set against Sunderland on Sunday, August 2.

“I think you always want to play well in any game,” Parkinson remarked. “But at this early stage of pre-season, the fitness element overrides anything really because we’ve got to get the lads prepared for a Championship season.”

Regarding fitness levels, Parkinson stated that most of his squad is “where we need to be.” He acknowledged that a few players are returning later due to minor issues carried over from last season but expressed no major concerns. “The lads feel they’re in a good place,” he added.

Parkinson also mentioned the excitement of playing at the Olympic Stadium, calling it a great opportunity for the team as they prepare for their trip to America on Wednesday.
