Liverpool Targets Adam Wharton as New Midfield Acquisition
Several midfielders have been linked to Liverpool during this summer transfer period.
From Alex Scott to Eduardo Camavinga, the list of star names associated with a move to Anfield continues to grow.

The latest report from Football Transfers suggests that Richard Hughes has declined the chance to sign Joao Gomes, leaving the Brazilian en route to Aston Villa.
Ultimately, the arrival of a new midfielder hinges on outgoing transfers.
Liverpool Must Sell to Buy
Liverpool cannot afford another spending spree like last summer, which saw the team spend £450 million with minimal return.
So far, they have invested close to £100 million this summer on players like Victor Munoz and Jeremy Jacquet, meaning midfielders need to depart before new signings can be made.
Curtis Jones is a key candidate for sale, with Inter Milan reportedly making another approach for the England international.

Additionally, Harvey Elliott may also be on the move after a disappointing loan spell at Aston Villa. Even Stefan Bajcetic has been linked to a budget-friendly transfer, as he, like Jones and Elliott, has only one year remaining on his contract.
If, and when, Liverpool lose midfielders, the recruitment team is expected to pounce for their preferred option.
Adam Wharton is Now Liverpool’s Top Target
According to a report from Football Transfers, Liverpool has identified Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace as their top target. The 22-year-old joined the Eagles in 2024 from Blackburn Rovers, signing a deal that runs until 2029.
However, the left-footed playmaker now appears set to leave, with the club valuing their star player at £100 million or more.

Wharton has celebrated victories in the FA Cup and UEFA Europa Conference League during his time at Selhurst Park, showcasing strong ball control and forward-passing skills.
The report indicates that Liverpool has opted to pass on Joao Gomes in favor of pursuing Wharton.

Liverpool Moving in a Different Direction with £100m Wharton
“Liverpool have made Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton their top target this summer, having rejected the opportunity to sign Joao Gomes from Wolves,” the report states.
“The Brazilian was eager to sign for Liverpool. After considering that deal, the Reds’ recruitment team opted for a different profile and set their sights on Wharton instead.”
The change of direction is very interesting, especially given Liverpool’s recent appointment of new head coach Andoni Iraola.
Wharton’s strengths include high pressing and playmaking, as he creates more chances on average compared to other midfielders in his position.

This suggests that Iraola plans to completely reshape the midfield, utilizing the Englishman’s skills to set the team’s tempo.
Joao Gomes may not align with the Reds’ current objectives, but a creative player like Wharton is seen as an ideal fit.
