Joan Laporta’s trip to the United States was about much more than watching FC Barcelona’s players compete at the World Cup.
The Barça president used five busy days in Dallas and New York to combine institutional diplomacy, business meetings and support for the club’s players, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Laporta travelled first to Dallas for Spain’s semi-final against England before heading to New York for the final against Argentina.
Throughout the trip, he remained close to the Barcelona players involved while also working on the club’s wider interests.
Barcelona explore new revenue opportunities
One of Laporta’s most notable meetings was with representatives of Fanatics, the American sports commerce and technology company.
The discussions were aimed at exploring possible opportunities and partnerships that could generate additional revenue for Barcelona.

For Barça, that work remains extremely important. The club’s global appeal is one of their biggest financial assets, and the United States provides enormous commercial potential.
Finding new ways to monetise that reach can help Barcelona strengthen their financial position without relying entirely on player sales or traditional sponsorship agreements.
Laporta’s schedule also included significant institutional work.
He spent time with Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president Rafael Louzan and La Liga president Javier Tebas, continuing efforts to strengthen relationships with two important figures in Spanish football.

Laporta strengthens relationships at the top
The Barça president also attended a dinner hosted by FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
Senior figures from PSG, Manchester City and Chelsea were present alongside federation presidents, American sports team owners and executives connected to major international businesses.
For Barcelona, being represented in those circles matters.
The modern football industry is increasingly shaped by relationships that extend beyond what happens on the pitch, particularly when clubs are searching for commercial growth and new international opportunities.

Laporta has often been criticised or praised according to Barcelona’s immediate sporting results, but the president’s responsibilities extend much further.
With the club still working to strengthen their finances, opening doors to new business opportunities is a necessary part of the job.
At the same time, maintaining strong institutional relationships can only help Barcelona navigate an increasingly complicated football landscape.
Laporta’s five days in the United States therefore appear to have served several purposes at once.
He supported Barça’s players on the biggest stage, strengthened important relationships and explored potential new income streams.
As club president, he continues to do everything for the betterment of the club’s future, and it remains to be seen whether anything materialises from these meetings in America over the past week.
