Conmebol President Reveals Next FIFA World Cup Will Feature 64 Teams

Conmebol president Alejandro Domínguez confirmed that the next FIFA World Cup will have 64 teams. The announcement came in a post by the official on X this Monday (20).

“A great opportunity for football, to celebrate the centenary of the World Cup with a competition featuring 64 teams,” he wrote.

FIFA is seriously contemplating expanding the number of teams for the upcoming World Cup, a topic that has been discussed for several weeks.

While there is no official statement from FIFA regarding this change, it marks the first time a significant football figure has revealed that the World Cup will feature 64 teams.

So, what’s the ideal number of teams in the World Cup? 32, 48, or 64? Have your say!

The 2030 FIFA World Cup will take place across six host nations located on three continents. Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay will each host one “opening” match.

Most of the matches will be held in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
