Roma Shifts Focus to Alternative Targets After Summerville’s Departure to Al-Hilal
Following Al-Hilal’s substantial €80 million acquisition of Crysencio Summerville, AS Roma is reevaluating its options for bolstering their attack. The Giallorossi are reportedly considering other players such as Antonio Nusa, Diego Moreira, and Andreas Schjelderup.
Roma’s search for a striker has been challenging, especially after losing out on Mason Greenwood to Fenerbahçe. Initially, the club believed they had secured Summerville from West Ham United for €50 million.

However, Simone Inzaghi’s Al-Hilal surpassed Roma’s offer with a reported €80 million bid and increased the salary offered to Summerville, persuading him to commit to the Saudi Pro League.
With their initial plan disrupted, Roma is left to deliberate over candidates suggested by coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

Alejandro Garnacho is also off the table, as he is reportedly close to moving on loan with an obligation to buy to Aston Villa from Chelsea.

Sky Sport Italia claim that Nusa is now under consideration, but Roma faces tough competition given the interest from several other clubs in the RB Leipzig forward.
The 21-year-old Norway international has attracted interest from clubs including Arsenal, Newcastle United, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Napoli, with an asking price around €45 million.

Another realistic option for Roma is Moreira, a Belgian international who recently turned 22 and participated in the World Cup.
Moreira, who was previously with Chelsea before joining RC Strasbourg in 2024, is seen as the most likely candidate for Roma’s squad. However, his original €30 million proposal was rejected, and his current asking price is closer to €50 million.
The name of Schjelderup has emerged in recent conversations as another potential candidate. The Norway international just turned 22 and competes with Nusa for a spot in the national team.
Having transferred to Benfica from Nordsjaelland in 2023, Schjelderup’s contract extends until June 2028.

Roma may face significant competition from Premier League teams such as Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, particularly as it was reported this week that Benfica wanted €80 million for the sale, a fee that is likely beyond Roma’s budget.
