FC Barcelona Faces Uncertainty Over Ferran Torres’ Contract Renewal

According to SPORT, FC Barcelona are becoming increasingly concerned that Ferran Torres could leave the club this summer.

What initially appeared to be a straightforward contract renewal has become far more complicated following serious interest from PSG and several Premier League clubs.

While Barcelona always believed the Spanish international wanted to remain, the gap between both parties has widened significantly, making an agreement increasingly difficult.

    Renewal talks not progressing

Barcelona delayed negotiations with Ferran over a new contract while waiting to clarify Robert Lewandowski’s future.

The club’s strategy was based on signing a new first-choice striker, with only one of Lewandowski or Ferran expected to play a leading role in the next project.

After Lewandowski’s departure, the World Cup winner appeared well positioned to remain, but the club intentionally postponed renewal discussions until later in the transfer window.

The plan was to begin formal negotiations in September, partly to avoid triggering an €8 million bonus payment owed to Manchester City if the contract were renewed immediately.

    PSG changed the picture

Although both Barcelona and the player initially shared a willingness to continue together, Ferran’s impressive season and strong performances at the World Cup dramatically increased interest in his services.

Several Premier League clubs have monitored his situation, but PSG have emerged as the most serious contender.

The French champions have presented an attractive sporting project alongside a financial package that Barcelona cannot match, leaving Ferran with an increasingly difficult decision.

Part of the player’s frustration stems from never being viewed as Barcelona’s long-term first-choice striker, despite consistently delivering whenever called upon.

Throughout the summer, the club’s priority has remained Julian Alvarez, with Ferran continuing to play a secondary role in the planning.

    Barcelona won’t change their position

Despite PSG’s interest, Barcelona still intend to meet with the player’s representatives in an attempt to convince him to stay.

However, the Catalans are not expected to significantly improve their offer. Their proposal would keep Ferran’s current salary frozen while maintaining his existing role within the squad, making the renewal less attractive from both a sporting and financial perspective.

If the forward wants to remain at Camp Nou, he would need to make significant compromises.

Barcelona are now waiting for Ferran to communicate his intentions, but his silence has only increased concerns that he may already be leaning towards a departure.

If the player decides to leave, Barcelona are determined to receive around €50 million for the transfer.

The La Liga champions hope for a quick resolution because the outcome will have major consequences for the rest of their transfer strategy.
