MLS issued a statement regarding the signing: “Major League Soccer is reviewing a tampering allegation against Inter Miami CF. The league is gathering all relevant information and will refrain from further comment until the review is complete.”

In the MLS, teams must acquire a player’s “discovery rights” to avoid bidding wars for top international talent. Only the team with these rights can negotiate with a player.

The LA Galaxy held discovery rights to Casemiro, but MLS confirmed that a settlement has been reached between the LA Galaxy and Inter Miami regarding these rights. The specific terms will be disclosed following the conclusion of the review.

“While Inter Miami CF and the LA Galaxy have reached a settlement for the Discovery Priority to sign Casemiro, the terms will be released upon conclusion of the tampering investigation.”

Casemiro, who played for Real Madrid from 2013 to 2022, made 224 appearances and scored 24 goals. He then joined Manchester United ahead of the 2022 Premier League season.

During his four seasons at Manchester United, he played 111 matches and scored 15 goals. This will mark his debut in the MLS.

Casemiro’s accolades include 5 UEFA Champions League titles, 3 UEFA Super Cups, 3 FIFA Club World Cups, 3 La Liga championships, 1 Copa del Rey, and 3 Spanish Super Cups. He has also represented the Brazilian national team in 91 matches.
