Sunderland AFC is reportedly in discussions with Turkish Super Lig club Eyüpspor regarding the potential transfer of striker Ahmed Abdullahi. According to a recent report by Sunderland Echo, the Black Cats are looking to cash in on the Nigerian forward this summer.

Abdullahi’s Unimpressive Season In English Football

Last season, Abdullahi struggled to make a significant impact for Sunderland, missing many games due to injuries. Though he has not yet made a senior appearance for the club, he has managed to score six goals in seven matches for the Under-21 squad across all competitions.

Despite being recognized as one of the top young forwards in Nigeria, Abdullahi currently finds himself surplus to requirements at the Premier League club. A change in environment could help him revive his career.

Abdullahi is under contract with Sunderland until the summer of 2028, providing coach Regis Le Bris with the luxury of time regarding any decision on his future.

Should Sunderland Boss Regis Le Bris Cut Abdullahi Loose This Summer?

Abdullahi has the ability to find space and create goal-scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates. His intelligent movement in the attacking third is commendable, but he remains a work in progress.

His susceptibility to injuries raises questions about his long-term future at Sunderland, making it essential for him to gain regular playing time in top-flight football to rebuild his career. Thus, a summer transfer might be in the best interest of both the player and the club.

At just 22, Abdullahi’s future can still be bright if he continues to develop. The Black Cats would do well to consider parting ways with him before the transfer window closes, potentially reallocating funds from his sale to enhance other areas of their squad.
