Former West Brom Player Quevin Castro Passes Away at 25 During Match in Portugal

Quevin Castro, a former midfielder for West Brom, has tragically died at the age of 25 after collapsing during a match in Portugal. The incident occurred during the first half of a friendly game between third-tier Real Sport Clube and top-flight side Estrela de Amadora at the Estadio das Seixas in Lisbon on Saturday.

According to the Lisbon Football Association (AFL), Castro “passed away this morning during the pre-season friendly”.

In a statement, Real Sport Clube expressed their sorrow, noting that Castro was a “beloved member of our sporting family”. They added, “Quevin Castro was much more than just a player; he was an integral part of our family, leaving an indelible mark on all those who knew him.”

Castro joined West Brom in 2021 and made his debut against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup. His second appearance came against Swansea later that same season, after which he went on loan to Burton Albion.

West Brom shared their devastation over Castro’s passing, announcing plans to honor him with a period of applause in the 25th minute of their Championship fixture against Burnley on Sunday, along with wearing black armbands.

Before his time at West Brom, the former Sporting Clube academy product played for various teams in England, including Cambridge City, York City, and Notts County, before returning to Portugal last summer.
