Liverpool are close to selling Cody Gakpo to Manchester City.

The 27-year-old Dutch player recently signed a new contract worth £250,000 per week, extending his agreement until 2030. However, it appears that the Netherlands international will not fulfill this contract at Anfield.

Manchester City has reportedly put forth an £85m offer for the versatile forward, who has started the season strongly under coach Andoni Iraola.

Liverpool Set to Acquire New Winger

In parallel, Liverpool has secured a deal for Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain. The transfer will cost £123 million, including add-ons, effectively replacing Gakpo in the squad.

However, Richard Hughes and Andoni Iraola are not finished yet. They continue to seek another wing option as the transfer window approaches its close.

The candidates include Ismaila Sarr and Yankuba Minteh. Sarr, aged 28, would join from Crystal Palace, serving as a right-footed right-wing option.

Minteh Currently Injured

Minteh, who has a notable record of scoring against Liverpool and has contributed to his club’s FA Cup and UEFA Europa Conference League victories, is currently sidelined due to injury and is not expected to return until October or November.

Brighton were thought to be holding out for around £80m before agreeing to sell the left-footed Gambian, who joined from Newcastle in 2024. A report by Football Insider indicates that Richard Hughes has decided to pause the potential move for Minteh for the moment.

Potential January Move for Minteh

Despite this setback, the 2024/25 Premier League champions plan to revisit the Minteh deal in January. The report states that Liverpool remains very interested in Minteh and will monitor his recovery from injury closely.

According to the report, the move will only be pursued if no other wingers join the team before the summer transfer deadline.

Liverpool is looking to strengthen their attacking options with one more addition alongside Barcola. If they do not make further acquisitions, it is likely they will refocus their efforts on securing Minteh in the new year.

Liverpool will come back for Minteh deal in January

Nonetheless the 2024/25 Premier League champions will return in January to secure a deal for the talented African forward.

“Liverpool could reignite their interest in Brighton star Yankuba Minteh in the January transfer window,” the report reads.

“Liverpool remain very keen on Minteh and will keep a close eye on his return from injury.”

The report does however make the claim that the deal will only be pursued if no other wingers arrive before the summer deadline.

Liverpool will be hoping to solidify their attack with one more option besides Barcola. And – if not – then we could see them use their winger budget to move back in for Minteh in the new year.
