Sunderland AFC are on the verge of signing Arsenal target Malick Fofana (21) from Lyon, according to The Athletic. The 21-year-old has been given permission to fly out to Wearside to complete his medical after Sunderland and Lyon eventually reached an agreement for Fofana’s transfer to Regis Le Bris’ Black Cats. Foot Mercato adds that Fofana has agreed to a five-year deal for Sunderland.
The outlet previously reported that Arsenal, who were understood to have led the race to sign Fofana, only verbally offered Lyon to sign the winger on loan with an option to buy. Sunderland AFC have previsouly turned their focus towards signing Fofana given the Black Cats are making little to no progress with Marseille to sign Brazilian winger Igor Paixaõ (26).
