Headline: Genoa Clinches 2-0 Victory Over Juventus as Daniele De Rossi Bests Mentor Luciano Spalletti

Genoa achieved a significant 2-0 victory against Juventus, with coach Daniele De Rossi expressing that it “means a lot” to defeat his former mentor, Luciano Spalletti. The match showcased goals from Kingsley Ehizibue and Tommaso Baldanzi in the first half, contributing to a strong team performance that reflected heart and spirit.

In a unique pre-match appearance, both De Rossi and Spalletti conducted their interviews together on live television, highlighting their close relationship formed during De Rossi’s tenure as a player under Spalletti at Roma. This match marked a pivotal moment, as the student triumphed over the master.

“It was a complete performance, because we held out under pressure a lot better than we had done in recent matches,” De Rossi stated in an interview with DAZN Italia. He added, “It was a pretty difficult fixture for us, but the team showed heart and spirit, also with a few good attacking moves, so we are really happy.”

This win over Juventus follows two consecutive home victories against Venezia and Fiorentina, giving Genoa a confidence boost moving forward in the season.

Reflecting on his coaching journey, De Rossi shared, “I started thinking about coaching very early, already from the age of 25 or 26. The older I got, the more I thought about my second career.” He mentioned the significance of facing renowned coaches like Spalletti and Gian Piero Gasperini, noting how the players were essential to the evening’s success.

Baldanzi, who had previously struggled for playing time, became a key player by scoring the second goal of the match. De Rossi noted, “We evaluated his characteristics, he hadn’t had much space lately, and I wanted to play him at all costs, because he was in good shape.” The team’s strategy involved adjustments to exploit weaknesses in Juventus’ defense.

De Rossi concluded by praising his players, emphasizing, “All the players were marvelous tonight. We made five or six changes and will make more against Lecce.”
