Milan’s Luka Modric Acknowledges Defeat to Bologna and Looks Ahead
Milan star Luka Modric has expressed that the Rossoneri deserved their 4-2 loss to Bologna on Wednesday, particularly after a disappointing second-half performance. This match marked Milan’s first Serie A defeat of the season.
“It was a bad defeat; we didn’t expect it, especially after the first half,” Modric shared with Sky Sport Italia, as reported by Milannews.
“I think we had done well in the league until now, and tonight we lost our first game. We lost so many duels in the second half. That set-piece goal was unfortunate, and from that moment we threw ourselves down. We deserved to lose,” he added.
Modric emphasized there are no excuses for the defeat, despite recent injuries impacting the squad. “It’s a positive that the next game is right away. We had done really well until tonight, so we must stay optimistic and hope to react on Saturday,” he said.
After starting on the bench, Modric replaced the injured Fikayo Tomori during the match.
Milan will compete against city rivals Inter in their next Serie A encounter on Saturday.

Despite the recent setback, Modric believes Milan is progressing positively under new coach Ruben Amorim. “I think we are going the right way. The coach has arrived with new ideas, with a new style of play, and we are trying to understand his ideas and what he asks of us,” he noted.
“As I said before, we had done well until tonight. You can always do more, but we still need to improve, and we hope to do it during the season,” he concluded.

Milan currently holds the fifth position in the Serie A standings with 18 points from nine matches, having recorded five wins, three draws, and one loss. Modric, age 41, remains under contract with Milan until the season’s end and has provided two assists in nine Serie A appearances this season.
