While everything appears positive on the pitch for the club, the situation off the field remains complex.
The Premier League has found Manchester City guilty of 114 financial breaches and the club is now facing unprecedented potential punishments in English football.
These penalties could include significant points deductions, relegation, or even the stripping of titles—each cited as possible outcomes.
Many critics argue that no punishment could adequately compensate for the unfair advantage the club has had over competing teams, impacting clubs from Liverpool to Arsenal and Manchester United, significantly altering the English football landscape.

In an exclusive conversation with EPL Index, former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison shared his insights on the matter…
“I Actually Feel Sorry For The Players”
When asked about the potential punishments for Manchester City, Hutchison expressed uncertainty.
“It’s one of them where everything just changes every five minutes,” he stated.
He reflected, “‘Put them in League Two,’ you think, before reconsidering, ‘You can’t put them in League Two because Haaland will go, Donnarumma will go.’ Then you think, ‘Yes, but they’ve cheated the system for nine years,’ and the questions about punishment just keep circling,” he remarked.

“I actually feel sorry for the players more than anything because everyone’s saying Kevin De Bruyne’s legacy is being tarnished and Sergio Aguero’s. It’s not really their fault. It’s the hierarchy that’s to blame,” Hutchison said.
“Yes, the players were bought, but in terms of being a human and being a professional footballer, Man City, like Liverpool over the last 10 years, has produced some of the best football that we’ve seen for ages.”
“So I do feel a little bit sorry for the players that are trying to play, especially the current squad, because what’s happened has got nothing to do with them really.”
“The punishment? I go round in circles every single time. I’m really struggling with it.”

Looking Ahead
Manchester City has already announced their intention to appeal the decision. For now, the club focuses on its performance on the field.
This Saturday, they will host Brighton at the Etihad Stadium, aiming to extend their lead in the Premier League. Following that match, they will face two challenging away games against Nottingham Forest and RB Leipzig.
Only time will tell how this situation will unfold. There are lingering questions about whether Manchester City will be competing in the Premier League next season. Hopefully, answers will emerge soon…
