Fiorentina and Atalanta Share Spoils in 2-2 Draw
Fiorentina and Atalanta fought to an exciting 2-2 draw, but the single point garnered does little to improve either team’s current standings. Both clubs, which have historically enjoyed more success, are now facing significant struggles.
The Viola experienced a brief uptick in performance following Paolo Vanoli’s return, yet they have since suffered three consecutive losses, compounded by injuries to Marin Pongracic, Luca Ranieri, Arthur Atta, and Fabiano Parisi.
Meanwhile, Atalanta’s troubles escalated, with a growing injury list that now includes Gianluca Scamacca, Raoul Bellanova, Giacomo Raspadori, Franck Kessie, Sead Kolasinac, Isak Hien, and Odilon Kossounou. The lone silver lining for La Dea was the return of Giorgio Scalvini to the bench. They have only clinched one win in their last six Serie A matches, having just faced a dramatic 4-4 draw against Frosinone.
In a surprising turn of events, Atalanta’s injury woes worsened right at the start, as Thomas Kristensen left the field after just two minutes. This prompted an earlier return for Scalvini.
Fiorentina kicked off aggressively, with Mateo Pellegrino and Alex Jimenez both missing the target before Franco Mastantuono tested Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi with a near-post shot.
Atalanta’s first real opportunity arose in the 19th minute when Charles De Ketelaere set up Eljif Elmas, whose shot was blocked. Carnesecchi had to be alert again to save a deflected attempt from Cher Ndour, while Gianluca Gaetano shot over after an assist from Elmas.
Mastantuono’s free kick narrowly missed the target but was a warning sign for Atalanta. They eventually broke the deadlock when Gianluca Gaetano dispossessed Niccolò Fagioli and led a counter-attack that culminated in De Ketelaere scoring from 12 yards, thanks to a pullback from Nicola Zalewski.
Just moments later, Atalanta could have extended their lead, but David De Gea made a breathtaking save to deny a header from Nikola Krstovic.
The match saw more drama when referee Federico La Penna was unable to finish officiating the second half due to an injury, switching places with fourth official Livio Marinelli.

Mastantuono had another chance, with a free-kick that narrowly missed the target before Fiorentina found their equalizer. Alex Jimenez delivered a cross to the back post, where Alieu Njie executed a diving header to level the score.
The match evolved into an end-to-end contest, leading Joao Mario to score for Fiorentina with a deflected shot from outside the box that left Carnesecchi bewildered.

Krstovic aimed wide after a clever dummy from De Ketelaere, who then hit the ground, but the referee waved away penalty claims. Atalanta leveled through Zalewski, who struck from inside the box and caught De Gea off guard with a low shot into the bottom corner.
Carnesecchi made a close save against Brescianini’s attempt at the near post, while De Ketelaere also tested De Gea with a powerful shot. The match concluded with a near miss from late substitute Beto, who headed wide in stoppage time.
