Forest Green Initiates Legal Action Against Savage Approach

Headline: Forest Green Rovers Initiates Legal Action Against Peterborough United Over Robbie Savage’s Departure

Forest Green Rovers owner Dale Vince has announced that the club is pursuing legal action against Peterborough United regarding their approach for former manager Robbie Savage. Savage transitioned to the League One club earlier this month, despite Vince initially blocking any discussions about the move. Vince claimed he ultimately felt compelled to agree to the transfer after Peterborough contacted Savage directly.

Vince shared the news in a brief video on social media, stating that Forest Green has “begun a legal process for the tapping up of our manager, now ex-manager, Robbie Savage.”

When approached by BBC Sport, Peterborough United did not provide a comment on the legal action, although they have previously denied making an illegal approach for Savage.

Savage had joined Forest Green Rovers after a successful period at Macclesfield FC, where he led the team to promotion to the National League North, achieving a notable tally of 109 goals and 109 points during the season.

After arriving in Gloucestershire in July 2025, Savage guided Forest Green to the play-offs, although their campaign ended in disappointment against Boreham Wood. This marked Savage’s only full season in charge, as he departed the club on October 2, when they were positioned 13th after 11 matches.

Vince expressed his feelings about the situation to BBC Radio Gloucestershire, explaining how he had initially denied Peterborough permission to speak with Savage, only to later find out that they had approached him directly. “Peterborough themselves have covered themselves in no glory here. They came to us and said, ‘We would like to speak to your manager,'” he remarked.

In response, Peterborough chairman Darren MacAnthony defended the process, asserting on X that the procedure for appointing a new manager was “100% correct and proper, following all the rules.”

Since taking charge at Peterborough, Savage’s record has featured two wins, two draws, and two losses across all competitions.
