Allegri: ‘Juventus Are Wounded, Not Dead, Making It Tough for Napoli’

Headline: Allegri Prepares Juventus for Key Match Against Napoli as Lobotka Faces Extended Absence

Massimiliano Allegri has addressed the challenges Juventus faces as they prepare to host Napoli on Sunday, asserting that his team is “wounded, not dead.” Ahead of the match at Allianz Stadium, Allegri announced that Napoli midfielder Stanislav Lobotka will be sidelined for about six weeks due to injury.

In a press conference held at Castel Volturno, Allegri, who will serve the second match of his two-game ban and leave the coaching duties to assistant Marco Landucci, noted that both teams enter this crucial matchup with 14 points each. Napoli recently secured a 4-1 victory against Monza on Wednesday, while Juventus suffered a 2-0 defeat against Genoa. Following their loss, the Juventus squad retreated to the J Hotel for two days of focused training.

“I agree. I’ve heard that in the media they’re giving Juve up for dead, but Juventus rarely die,” Allegri stated. “They’re a strong team with a good coach, and in moments like these they pull together, so it will be very hard for us. We’ll need a great technical and physical performance, and a pinch of luck.”

Allegri anticipates a determined response from Juventus, describing their upcoming opponent as “a wounded, angry team” that is capable of fighting for the top four spots. He emphasized the need for his players to exhibit fighting spirit and technical skills, asserting, “We won’t find the team that’s being described.”

Having enjoyed significant success during his two tenures at Juventus, including five Scudetti, Allegri spoke about his emotional ties to the club. “There’s no point always bringing it up… I spent 10 years there, 50% of my career, and my son lives in Turin,” he remarked. “It will be a great game, a head-to-head between two teams who are behind in the table.”

In addition to Lobotka’s injury, Allegri confirmed that Napoli has been adversely affected by illness within the squad. Amir Rrahmani and André-Frank Zambo Anguissa both missed training this week due to flu-like symptoms. Allegri expressed hope for their recovery in time for the match.

He praised player Rasmus Højlund, who shone with a goal at Monza. Allegri believes that while Juventus has scored significantly in recent games, they also need to improve their defensive organization and ball management.

Regarding the pressure on Napoli in upcoming high-stakes matches, Allegri acknowledged their struggles but highlighted that a single win against Juventus should not define their season. “The objective is to get to the end of the season in the top four, which won’t be easy because there are well-equipped teams,” Allegri stated, reiterating the importance of focusing on the broader goals for the season despite the intense anticipation surrounding this match.

As Juventus readies for the clash, the team aims to strike the right balance following recent mixed results, with an emphasis on continuous improvement regardless of prior outcomes.
