Spalletti: ‘Juventus Needs to Play Decisively with Clear Minds’

Spalletti Urges Juventus to Find Clarity and Balance Ahead of Napoli Clash

Luciano Spalletti has called on Juventus to “play with clearer heads and with the desire to make decisions on the pitch” in their upcoming match against Napoli, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the right sense of balance. The match is set to kick off at the Allianz Juventus Stadium in Turin at 19:45 GMT (20:45 CET).

The atmosphere within the Bianconeri’s camp is tense following a disappointing 2-0 defeat to relegation-threatened Genoa on Wednesday, marking yet another lackluster performance from the team. However, the match holds special significance for Spalletti, who is set to reunite with his former club, where he celebrated a Scudetto victory in 2023.

“My state of mind is the desire to change this trend, to overturn any negative situation that comes our way,” Spalletti stated in an interview with DAZN Italia. “These are all things I’ve already been through in football, at my age, so it feels like I know what to say and do, but then that is up for others to judge.” He stressed the need for his players to approach the game with clear thinking and decisiveness, warning that failure to do so could lead to negative outcomes in football.

In a bid to foster unity within the squad, Juventus held a mini training retreat, which included players currently sidelined due to injury. Director Giovanni Carnevali also addressed the team, conveying his extensive experience and commitment to the club. “He is an experienced director, who knows where he came from and has all the desire to take charge in such an important club,” Spalletti remarked.

Spalletti acknowledged the frustration that has accompanied recent results. “The only thing that irritated me was the failure to get results,” he noted. “I just get up early, try to do what is best for the team, hope those things are recognized and we see them on the field.”

Calls for the coach’s dismissal have emerged, particularly following the team’s first home match since a heavy 3-0 defeat to Lazio. This upcoming game against Napoli will be telling in terms of how supporters respond to the team’s current situation. “This desire to win must push us forward, but we must do so with balance, because otherwise we risk getting knocked back,” Spalletti cautioned.

As Juventus prepares for a challenging fixture, Spalletti has indicated that the game plan will hinge on the starting lineup. “If you want to ask about our approach, then just look at the line-up and that says it all,” he added.

In team news, Jeff Ekhator returns to the squad after a few months away, but several players, including Nico Gonzalez, Francisco Conceicao, Zeki Celik, Kenan Yildiz, Manuel Locatelli, Khephren Thuram, and Kamil Grabara, remain on the sidelines. It remains to be seen what formation Juventus will adopt, but Spalletti has confirmed that Kerim Alajbegovic, Nick Woltemade, and Randal Kolo Muani will start the match, with Weston McKennie playing a tactical role.
