Thuram Calls for a Shift in Mentality Following Derby Defeat
Inter Milan forward Marcus Thuram emphasized the need for a change in mentality after the team’s recent 3-1 defeat to AC Milan, their first loss of the season and the eighth consecutive derby match without a victory. Thuram expressed his support for statements made by teammates Nicolò Barella and Alessandro Bastoni concerning the squad’s mindset.
Before Tuesday’s Champions League fixture against Feyenoord in Rotterdam, which kicks off at 21:00 CET, Thuram shared his thoughts alongside Cristian Chivu, as reported by the Corriere dello Sport. Both Barella and Bastoni highlighted the necessity of a mental shift following the disappointing derby result.
“I fully agree with what they said,” Thuram stated regarding his teammates. “They’re two leaders, and their words were important.”
Looking ahead, Thuram shared his desire for Inter to revisit the determination displayed during the second half of their Champions League victory over Shakhtar Donetsk, where they managed to secure a win despite being reduced to ten players. “The attitude we had in that game, especially when we were down to 10, must be the same one we show again in both the Champions League and the league,” he said.
As a pivotal player for Inter, particularly with Lautaro Martínez sidelined due to injury, Thuram has taken on a significant role, starting every match since the international break and scoring in three consecutive league games prior to the derby. He noted, “I’m very happy with the minutes I’m getting. My role? I can also play as a lone striker. I don’t have a problem with that.”
Inter currently sits with three points from their initial three Champions League matches, and Chivu believes the team will need approximately 16 points to secure a top-eight finish.
