Sunderland’s Dayann Methalie Selected for Zinédine Zidane’s Extended France Squad

Dayann Methalie Earns Preliminary Call-Up to French National Team

Sunderland AFC’s Dayann Methalie, a 20-year-old left-back, has reportedly received a preliminary call-up to the French national team, with the information sourced from Foot Mercato.

After joining the Black Cats from Toulouse FC last summer, Methalie initially took time to adapt before gaining increased playing time in October. He made five starts in six matches under manager Régis Le Bris, showcasing his emerging talent.

Having previously been called up to the France Under-21 squad in September, Methalie’s potential move to the senior team appears to be the next logical chapter in his career, especially as he has consistently improved since making his professional debut.

During the 2025-26 season, he made 31 appearances—25 of them as a starter—scoring two goals and providing two assists for TéFéCé. His performance has established him as one of the leading players in his position within Ligue 1.
