Arsenal’s Renée Slegers Emphasizes Importance of Upcoming Matches in Barclays Women’s Super League
Arsenal head coach Renée Slegers asserts that every match is crucial as the team seeks to establish better form in the Barclays Women’s Super League. The Gunners have started the season on a less than stellar note, having secured only two victories from their eight league encounters.

With a significant set of fixtures approaching before the next international break, Slegers emphasizes the importance of each game in shaping their season. “I think everything is defining,” Slegers stated in a press conference ahead of this weekend’s fixture against Liverpool. “It was at the start of the season and it’s even more so now. Every moment we have is important for us and for where we want to end up, results, how we want to present ourselves, how we want to make the club and the supporters proud as well. Every moment is defining, we know that.”
“The run of games that are ahead of us, they’re challenging and exciting games,” she continued. “Liverpool, we remember that game from last year; it was the last game in an Arsenal shirt for a couple of players and it was a special game for us, it was a special moment for us. We have good memories of the football that we played there. Everything is new now, but we’ll want to take that into the game on Sunday as well, and then the run of games.”
“There’s of course two big Champions League games coming up. We’re in a good position in the league phase, now of course facing Barcelona and Lyon in the next two, which we look forward to, to the big challenges and then London City, but Liverpool on Sunday.”

Arsenal’s upcoming opponents, Liverpool, remain undefeated at home in the league this season. Slegers recognizes that The Reds present a well-balanced and structured challenge. She noted, “I think they had a really good second half of the season last year as well. The game that we played there at Anfield last year, the first half, they were really brave and aggressive in their press. I think that’s something they do well.”
“They’re very structured with their in-possession, out-of-possession way they play,” Slegers added. “I think they’ve added some players to their squad as well. It looks really well balanced and I think they make it difficult for teams. They will try to do that on Sunday as well, which we’ll have to break down.”
Arsenal’s Barclays Women’s Super League match against Liverpool is scheduled to kick off at 12pm on Sunday afternoon.
