Gatti Urges Juventus: ‘I Need to Play, Not Just Support Kolo Muani’

Juventus Secures 2-1 Victory Over AZ Alkmaar in UEFA Europa League

Juventus achieved a solid 2-1 win against AZ Alkmaar at the AZ Stadion, a venue where no European team had secured all three points since October 2023. Federico Gatti made a public appeal to coach Luciano Spalletti, emphasizing his need for more playing time after his commendable performance in the match.

Randal Kolo Muani provided an assist for Teun Koopmeiners’ first goal and netted the second goal himself. However, the match featured a tense finale as Mexx Meerdink reduced the deficit for the Dutch side.

“This is a very good victory; it’s always difficult to win away in Europe,” Gatti stated to Sky Sport Italia. “However, we need to quickly shift our focus to improving our Serie A performance, as we cannot remain where we are.”

Gatti expressed the importance of maintaining peak fitness, acknowledging that not being at 100% increases the risk of errors. “The only way to achieve full fitness is by playing,” he added.

During the match, Gatti notably surged forward and played a makeshift striker role while also making crucial interceptions on defense. “When you push forward, it can take a moment to recover, affecting your vision. I’ll leave the goal-scoring to the strikers,” Gatti remarked. “We needed this win to build consistency after Sunday’s success.”

Kolo Muani’s performance sparked discussions on whether his role should be as a center-forward or in a more flexible position, allowing him to drop deeper. Gatti highlighted the player’s skills, stating, “He is a fantastic player with qualities that we aren’t fully utilizing. As a defender, I know how challenging he is to handle when he charges at you.”

Kolo Muani seemed to thrive during the match, particularly when he explored the right flank, contrasting with his tendency to drift left in earlier games.
