Amorim Critiques Milan Performance: ‘We Must Improve or It’s Over’

Ruben Amorim Criticizes Milan’s Performance After Europa League Loss to Ferencvaros

Ruben Amorim expressed his frustration regarding his Milan players after their shocking 2-0 Europa League defeat to Ferencvaros. He stressed, “We have to improve, otherwise it’s over.”

The coach appeared visibly taken aback by his team’s performance at San Siro, especially given their recent success in the Derby della Madonnina, where they triumphed over Inter Milan 3-1.

In the match against Ferencvaros, Milan failed to register a single shot on target during the first half and conceded two goals to Lenny Joseph, as they allowed multiple scoring chances for the Hungarian squad.

Following his strong remarks in the post-match interview with Sky Sport Italia, Amorim further elaborated during the press conference, indicating that his tenure as coach could be in jeopardy if performance does not improve.

“I’m simply saying what I see, because you’re not stupid, and I don’t want to fool anyone,” he said.

“I have every reason to defend the team, so when I speak like this, I take responsibility first and foremost because the team is my responsibility.

“However, we cannot afford such performances, particularly in the first half, in front of our fans, at home. We can’t do it.

“We have to improve, otherwise it’s over.”

Amorim previously mentioned that it is evident Milan is “not ready to be competitive” every three days, as they have faced defeats in three out of their first four Europa League matches, risking an early exit from the tournament.

“This is my feeling, but I’m not the one saying it. The facts prove it. And today’s game confirmed it; we’re not mentally prepared. The technical aspect has nothing to do with it. The rotation has nothing to do with it. One cannot argue that the starting lineup was incapable of winning the game.

“We had every opportunity, especially in the beginning. I noticed a stark difference in our reactions when we lost the ball compared to three days ago, and we had four days to recover.”
