Prague Summit Addresses ‘Hard Yards’ in Global Cooperation

Bournemouth Fans Celebrate Successful European Journey Despite Early Challenges

Hundreds of Bournemouth supporters who traveled to Prague gathered in the Old Town Square on Thursday evening to participate in the traditional European “fan walk” to the stadium. For many, this journey represented the dedication of following the team through their League Two days, often traveling to less glamorous destinations such as Bury or Rochdale.

The mood remained upbeat as fans crossed the river, but the challenging ascent of more than a dozen flights of steps into Letna Park slightly dampened spirits, drawing comparisons to the daunting climb at St James’ Park during away matches.

Upon nearing Sparta Prague’s Epet Arena, supporters faced another obstacle when police delayed them, directing them away from the stadium and through residential areas before they finally reached the away fans’ section just as kick-off was approaching.

Bournemouth’s night appeared to take a turn for the worse when Lewis Cook missed a penalty, allowing Sparta to take a 1-0 lead into halftime, ending the Cherries’ impressive streak of six clean sheets. Cook, known more for his defensive skills than scoring, has netted only four goals in 318 appearances throughout his decade-long career with Bournemouth.

Notably, Cook’s decision to take the penalty came as both regular penalty-takers, Justin Kluivert and Marcus Tavernier, were sidelined on the substitutes’ bench. Although Cook has demonstrated proficiency in penalty shootouts, converting three out of three in crucial moments, including against Norwich in 2022, Wolves in 2025, and Newcastle earlier this year, this attempt proved unsuccessful.

Despite making eight changes for the match against Sparta, manager Marco Rose’s strategy ultimately paid off. Substitutes Tyler Adams, Evanilson, and Rayan came off the bench to score, leading Bournemouth to a 3-1 victory.

Fans who followed the “hard yards” were rewarded with the team’s seventh consecutive win across all competitions and a continued perfect record in the Europa League. However, after the match, some supporters opted for a more relaxed tram ride back to the city center.
