Preston Signs Ex-Charlton Captain Docherty

Headline: Preston North End Secures Midfielder Greg Docherty on Seasonal Deal

Preston North End has officially signed midfielder Greg Docherty on a contract that extends until the end of the current season.

The 30-year-old athlete began his professional journey with Hamilton Academical before making a move to Rangers in 2018. He subsequently joined Hull City two years later, where he made over 100 appearances and played a key role in securing promotion from League One. After his time at Hull, Docherty also served as captain during his tenure at Charlton Athletic, where he similarly achieved promotion.

“I’ve always loved the idea of playing for Preston North End and I love Deepdale as a stadium too,” Docherty expressed. “I found it extremely tough playing here as an opposition player, so I’m glad to be on the other side now. I’ve had a really good feeling when speaking to the manager and when I see how passionate he is about turning this situation around, it gives me so much excitement to try and help change it too.”

Docherty has been a free agent since leaving Charlton in September after the summer transfer window closed. In recent weeks, he has trained with Graham Alexander’s squad and has even played for North End’s Under-21s.

“We’re really pleased to bring Greg in. He’s been a captain, won promotions, and knows the game inside out,” Alexander noted. “Greg’s vocal, fit, and motivated, which are all the key things you look for in a professional footballer.”
