Manuel Neuer Becomes Bayern’s Oldest Bundesliga Player Amid Injury Concerns
Manuel Neuer made history today by starting in Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga match against Mainz 05, surpassing Bernd Dreher as the club’s oldest-ever Bundesliga player at 40 years and 225 days. Neuer’s record-setting presence on the pitch initially brought positive momentum for Bayern, who took the lead in the 14th minute thanks to Joshua Kimmich, with Harry Kane providing the assist.
However, the match took a turn for the worse for Neuer in the 40th minute. A free kick delivered by Amiri found Tah, who inadvertently redirected the ball towards the far post. Neuer made an attempt to intercept the ball but misjudged the situation, allowing Jae-Sung Lee to score, seemingly bringing the game to a 1-1 tie.
Following his unsuccessful leap, Neuer indicated he was injured. After receiving treatment on his right foot, he was substituted for Jonas Urbig.
Despite Neuer’s misjudgment leading to the equalizing goal, there was a fortunate twist for Bayern. The goal was disallowed after a VAR check revealed that Lee was offside when he scored, allowing Bayern to maintain their lead as they headed into halftime.
