Linfield Claims Victory Over Coleraine with 3-0 Win at Windsor Park
Linfield surged to the top of the Irish Premiership, defeating Coleraine 3-0 at Windsor Park in a commanding performance that showcased their ambitions for the season. The hosts took the lead just three minutes before halftime, when on-loan Bohemians winger Rhys Brennan scored his third goal of the season.
After halftime, the momentum continued for Linfield as fellow winger Adam Frizzell added to the score, netting his third goal of the campaign shortly after the restart. With 18 minutes remaining, Kitt Nelson sealed the victory with a solo effort, maneuvering past several defenders before firing into an empty net, ensuring a comprehensive win for Linfield.
This victory not only elevates Linfield to a one-point lead at the top of the league but also marks an early season double over Coleraine, having previously beaten them 3-1 at the Showgrounds in September.
Brilliant Blues Shine at Windsor Park
Coleraine initially posed a threat in the match’s opening quarter, with former Linfield player Joel Cooper attempting to score. Cutting in from the right onto his left foot, Cooper sent a low shot towards the goal, but Linfield goalkeeper Chris Johns made a crucial save, diving to redirect the ball around the post.
Brennan soon demonstrated his attacking prowess, evading defender Aidan Wilson, but was again thwarted by Coleraine goalkeeper Lewis Webb. However, Brennan ultimately found the net, getting in front of his marker to deftly finish a cross from Matthew Fitzpatrick over Webb.
Linfield began the second half energetically, and their efforts paid off eight minutes later when a turnover in possession from Ben Wylie allowed for a quick counterattack. The ball reached Frizzell, who skillfully placed a low shot past Webb to double the lead.
The third goal came from Nelson, who displayed excellent footwork near the touchline, dancing past defenders and finishing low into an unguarded net, marking a remarkable evening for the Blues.
