DR Congo Superfan Denied Visa for World Cup Match Against England

Famed DR Congo supporter Michel Nkuka Mboladinga will not attend the 2026 World Cup match against England in the United States due to a visa denial. His seat in the stands will now be filled by a younger stand-in who is expected to mimic Mboladinga’s signature poses, a hallmark of DR Congo’s passionate support.

The news gained traction after Mboladinga’s powerful protest against the silence surrounding the conflict in eastern DR Congo went viral on social media. Footage showed him covering his mouth with his hand and miming a gun to his head, which resonated widely among viewers.

While it remains unclear if the visa decision is linked to his recent protest, it undoubtedly represents a significant loss for DR Congo. The team will miss having their cult hero in the stands for this important clash against England. A new fan will now need to step up, not just to occupy the seat, but also to help maintain the unique atmosphere Mboladinga created.
