France Advances to World Cup Semifinals After Victory Over Morocco
France secured a place in the World Cup semifinals following a 2-0 victory against Morocco. Goals from Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé kept the team’s pursuit of a third consecutive finals appearance on track.
France increased the pressure early in the match, but Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine “Bono” Bounou maintained his strong form with three saves in the first half. This included a save on a penalty kick awarded to France after Mbappé drew a foul. Despite an extended VAR review, Bounou comfortably stopped the penalty attempt.
The French offense faced continued resistance at the start of the second half as Morocco began creating scoring opportunities of their own. The breakthrough arrived in the 60th minute when Mbappé capitalized on a turnover to strike an effective shot from the edge of the box.
Six minutes later, Ousmane Dembélé extended the lead for France by scoring, further improving his standing in the race for the Golden Boot.
