BBC Sport sees record engagement as summer football coverage continues

A massive summer of football is well under way – and more of you than ever are spending it with BBC Sport.

In recent weeks, a record number of people have been coming to our website and app, and we’ve seen huge numbers across live pages, articles and videos.

We’re delighted to see you all enjoying our coverage of the World Cup – as well as Wimbledon, Formula 1, cricket, and much more – across all of our platforms.

While the thrilling drama of the football is driving you to visit our pages, we’ve also been working hard over recent months to ensure our content and experiences match the quality of the action.

Our storytelling is getting more in-depth, with stronger analysis, expert insights and the inside stories behind the headlines.

You will also have spotted some new additions, such as a Shorts tab on the app, a new Predictor game and the popular Fifa World Cup 3D Experience.

The ‘as it stands’ projection for the last 32 of the World Cup was also a massive hit, helping you to plot a team’s path through the knockout stage.

We’ve also added more football quizzes, including the new Who Am I? format and tested live comments in our live pages for some matches.

All of these innovations are based on your feedback. We constantly monitor the data and our BBC teams speak to our audiences regularly to understand how you’re using the website and app.

    What’s next?

When the World Cup ends, regardless of who wins, we’ll still have loads of great content every day as we build up to the new football season.

As well as all the fall-out and reaction to the tournament, we’ll quickly shift back in the club football with pre-season coverage and all the latest transfer gossip and stories.

BBC Sport and teams across BBC Nations and Regions cover every club in the Premier League, WSL, EFL, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

We have dedicated club reporters, who will be travelling to bring you behind-the-scenes insights from pre-season tours.

We’ll also have live pages for selected pre-season matches as well as in-depth features and storytelling, giving you the latest updates before the new campaign.

Once the World Cup ends, some of the standout players will be hot property in the transfer market, with top clubs chasing their signatures.

Our reporters, including senior football correspondent Sami Mokbel, will be breaking the big transfer stories on our website and app.

We’ll also have our daily transfer gossip column, wrapping up all the rumours from across the football world.

For fans of World Cup Predictor, a brand new weekly Predictor game will be launching immediately after the tournament with five fixtures a week to predict the outcomes of.

You’ll be able to build up your streaks and share your results with friends and family.

Our quizzes will also continue to be available to play so you can test your knowledge of the beautiful game.

    The new season

We’re already working on some exciting new things for the new football season.

In the men’s game, you’ll be able to watch highlights from the Premier League, Champions League, Scottish Premiership, FA Cup, La Liga and Bundesliga.

In the women’s game, there will be highlights from the WSL and Women’s Champions League

Our new Shorts tab in the BBC Sport app will be the new home of sport videos with content throughout the week from your club, including explainers, pundit analysis, interviews and behind-the-scenes content.

We’ll also be starting to include more reaction from fans so you can see the latest hot takes and debate the biggest talking points from your club.

Want to make Shorts your default tab in the app? You can do that in Settings.

Live pages are going to get bigger and better with more interactive elements, more conversation and improved functionality. They’ll have Radio 5 Live audio commentaries for the Premier League and Champions League as well as live video for FA Cup.

Our trusted Scores & Fixtures pages will be the place to keep up with matches as they happen across the football pyramid.

Remember, the best way to get all of this content is to download the BBC Sport app and follow your favourite teams and sports using the My Sport tab.

Once you’ve set this up, you’ll have quick access to those pages at the top of your Home tab and we’ll be able to serve you better, more personalised, experiences in future.

If you follow a Premier League team, from the start of the new season you’ll also get Live Notifications which give you score updates directly on your phone’s lock screen during a match.

    Have your say

Still want more? We’d love to hear your feedback on what’s working, what’s not and what else you’d love to see more of on the BBC Sport website and app.
