Liverpool Faces Transfer Setbacks as Rivals Pursue Key Targets

Liverpool have already found themselves behind their rivals with a lot of transfers this summer.

Admittedly, they did manage to get one over Newcastle United again with their signing of Victor Munoz but, unless he massively ups his output, it feels like the Spaniard is more of a squad option at the moment.

So, the fact that the 23-year-old is the only signing that Liverpool have made so far is rather worrying, especially since they’ve lost Ibrahima Konate, Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson.

Each of those players were regular starters in L4 and, without replacing them, there’s no way that the Reds will be able to make their way back to the top of the Premier League table.

Of course, the fact that they’ve only signed Munoz doesn’t mean that they haven’t tried to get deals for other players over the line but, more often than not, they’ve been priced out or turned down.

As embarrassing as this is, especially with how big of a club Liverpool are supposed to be, nothing would leave them as red-faced as what Real Madrid could be about to do to them.

Real Madrid could end up signing Michael Olise for a record fee this summer

Although Real Madrid and Liverpool are from two different countries, they’ve managed to become rivals over the last few years.

Whether it’s meeting them in Champions League finals or transfers between the two clubs, there’s always been a bit of hostility about them.

Each club has a new manager at the helm with both of them trying to get their teams back to the top which means that they’re going to end up targeting the same players at one point or another.

And, unfortunately for Liverpool, Jose Mourinho is now reportedly eyeing a ‘record’ move for their number one target to replace Salah, Michael Olise.

“Michael Olise wants to join Real Madrid as early as this SUMMER,” Sebastien Denis wrote via his personal X account.

“After a stratospheric season and currently the top assist provider for the 2026 World Cup, Olise believes Real is the ideal environment to take the next step.

“Bayern, who want to extend his contract, are nevertheless preparing their backups by reaching out to several potential replacements.

“Real want to make it a record transfer. Decisive talks will take place after the World Cup.”

Michael Olise joining Real Madrid would massively embarrass Liverpool

Before the summer transfer window even opened, Liverpool made it clear that Olise was their number one target to replace Salah.

After Bayern Munich flat-out rejected any sort of move for the Frenchman this summer, the Reds turned their attention towards Yan Diomande instead with most people believing that he’d end up joining Liverpool.

However, he also rejected Liverpool and claimed that he wanted to join Paris Saint-Germain instead.

But, even that has now gone out of the window with the latest reports claiming that the Ivorian is set to stay at the Red Bull Arena for the foreseeable future.

Each of these misses have just added more pressure onto the shoulders of Andoni Iraola and Richard Hughes and, the fact that Real could be signing Olise just makes things even worse.

Indeed, it’s likely to be an astronomical fee but, the fact that Olise is wanting the move makes it feel like it’s going to get over the line.

So, if this does happen, the Reds would be left rather red-faced and outdone by Los Blancos once again, which, after they prised Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate away from them for free, is far from ideal.
