Donald Trump Questions Thomas Tuchel’s Tactics Following England’s World Cup Semi-Final Loss
Donald Trump has surprisingly added his voice to the chorus questioning Thomas Tuchel’s tactics in England’s World Cup semi-final defeat.
On Wednesday, England took a second-half lead against Argentina, edging closer to their first men’s World Cup final since their 1966 victory. However, Anthony Gordon’s goal was countered by a late strike from Enzo Fernandez, followed by a header from Lautaro Martinez, resulting in England’s exit as Argentina advanced to the final against Spain.

German coach Tuchel faced stern criticism for his ultra-defensive substitutions while leading 1-0, which allowed Argentina to mount significant pressure with ample time left in the match.
The backlash has sparked debate about Tuchel’s future as England’s coach. Despite the criticism, the Football Association has publicly supported him after he recently extended his contract through to 2028.

Trump suggested that Tuchel may have erred by assigning Kane a defensive role, which he believed contributed to England’s setback. “What do I know about soccer?” Trump mused, noting the oddity of shifting the team’s best player into a defensive position.

“We got to be a little offensive, right?” he continued. “I thought that was a little unusual, but Harry is a great guy, actually.”
The 2026 World Cup will take place across the US, Canada, and Mexico, featuring 48 teams for the first time. Furthermore, Fifa president Gianni Infantino has suggested that the next men’s World Cup could include 64 teams, with the event scheduled for Saudi Arabia in 2030.
