Liverpool Seeks Competitive Edge by Targeting Pierre Kalulu Amidst Manchester United Rivalry

Liverpool and Manchester United will forever be arch-rivals.

The two teams have always had a fierce rivalry and every time they face one another, there is always a lot of hostility.

This season, the Red Devils did the double over Liverpool in the Premier League which, after Liverpool’s dominance over them the season prior, is far from ideal.

So, in order for the Reds to get back at Man United, it feels like they need to do something to embarrass them, whether that’s during the summer transfer window or throughout the Premier League season.

And, after the latest transfer news to emerge from Italy, it feels like the perfect opportunity for Liverpool to do just that has emerged.

Liverpool must beat Manchester United to the signing of Pierre Kalulu

One area that both teams need to upgrade this summer is their defence.

Liverpool have lost Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate whereas Man United have only got a couple of players to choose from among their ranks.

And, since Lisandro Martinez exited the World Cup final due to injury on Sunday, they could be without the Argentinian once again.

So, with this in mind, there’s no wonder that both clubs are being linked with the same players.

And, if the latest update from La Gazzetta dello Sport is anything to go by, then Liverpool have the perfect opportunity to embarrass their rivals by signing Pierre Kalulu from under their noses.

“It’s no secret that Juventus needs at least one significant transfer to restore its position after its relegation to the Europa League,” they wrote.

“While interest in the main candidates for the move isn’t gaining traction (Galatasaray is after Bremer, Barcelona is after Cambiaso), Khephren Thuram has withdrawn from the transfer market due to knee problems: he risks sitting out the entire preseason, including the August tour of China and Australia, as a spectator.

Aside from the untouchable Kenan Yildiz, the two most talked-about Bianconeri players in European circles who are currently at risk of leaving are Francisco Conceicao and Kalulu.

“In other words, if a compelling offer for the French full-back arrives (keep an eye on Manchester United and Liverpool), Juventus now finds itself in a position to sell him without hesitation. Thanks to Celik, the replacement is already in place.”

Pierre Kalulu would be a perfect transfer for Liverpool

Not only would Liverpool be able to embarrass Man United if they managed to sign Kalulu but they’d also be signing an extremely solid player.

One of the main things that footballers need to have in their lockers these days is versatility.

So, the fact that Kalulu can be used as a centre-back or a right-back is massively helpful, especially with the number of injuries that Liverpool have suffered over the last couple of years.

The Reds’ defence is also one of their main areas that need upgrading so, the fact that Kalulu is 26 years old and already has plenty of experience in the Serie A and Ligue 1 makes a deal feel much more viable.

This experience would allow him to fit straight into Iraola’s plans and potentially even cover for Conor Bradley or Jeremie Frimpong at right-back if needed.

And, for a fee worth €40 million (£33.9 million) it feels like the Frenchman would be an absolute steal.

Indeed, signing the defender wouldn’t help with their homegrown quota but, since Konate and Robertson have both exited, he could just take one of their spots on the registration list.
