Ipswich Town has bolstered its squad for the upcoming Premier League season with the £20 million signing of Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu from Leicester City.

The 22-year-old has penned a five-year contract and joins manager Gary O’Neil’s team after netting 16 goals in 100 appearances for Leicester since moving from Sporting in 2023.

Fatawu arrives at Portman Road as Ipswich is open to allowing winger Jaden Philogene to depart, with the 24-year-old drawing interest from several European clubs.

Philogene is reportedly on the radar of Bologna, Roma, and Benfica, and Ipswich will consider a transfer if a suitable offer comes in.

Fatawu becomes Ipswich’s fifth signing of the summer, following striker Emersonn, who joined from Toulouse earlier this month for a club record fee of approximately £26 million.

Defender Cedric Kipre and forward Chuba Akpom also signed on a permanent basis following successful loan spells last season, while goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen has joined the club from Dutch side FC Volendam.

“After speaking to the manager, I know what the expectation is and I’m looking forward to meeting my team-mates and starting work.”

Fatawu was part of the Leicester squad that was relegated from the Championship last season, while the club now prepares for its second season in the third tier of English football.

The Tractor Boys finished second in the Championship last season and will host Sunderland in their top-flight opener on August 22.
