Manchester United Faces Backlash Over Ticket Touting Efforts
Manchester United is encountering renewed criticism from its supporters after a campaign designed to combat ticket touting resulted in the suspension of numerous fan accounts and uncertainty regarding their season tickets.
The club recently intensified its efforts to curtail the illegal resale of match tickets, issuing warning emails to fans whose accounts were flagged during the investigation.

Some supporters were notified that their accounts had been suspended, while others risk losing their season tickets ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League campaign if violations were confirmed.
While many fans acknowledge that ticket touting needs to be addressed, increasing numbers believe the club’s measures have been excessive.
Numerous loyal supporters argue they have been unfairly included in these actions without a chance to clarify their circumstances.
Their concerns have garnered support from several fan organizations, including the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust (MUST), The 1958, The Red Army, multiple official supporters’ clubs, and well-established fan publications Red News and United We Stand.

These groups have collectively urged the club to halt its current suspension process and reassess the methods used in investigations.
In a joint statement, the organizations expressed that long-term supporters should not feel treated as suspects without adequate evidence or a chance to respond to allegations.
“Long-standing supporters who have followed Manchester United for decades, often across multiple generations of the same family, should never feel they are being treated as suspects without clear evidence, due process or a meaningful opportunity to respond to the allegations made against them,” the groups stated in a joint statement.
“The current approach has created a growing perception among supporters of a ‘Ban first and ask questions later’ process. That is not how trust is built, nor is it consistent with the standards of fairness that loyal supporters should expect from their football club.

“Investigations should establish the facts before sanctions are imposed, particularly where the potential consequence is the loss of a season ticket and relationships with the club built over many decades.”
Additionally, the club has faced backlash for reducing discounts available to older supporters, which many feel has hindered their ability to attend matches.
Concerns have also been raised about rising ticket prices, which have made matchday expenses increasingly burdensome for fans.
