FIGC President Giovanni Malagò indicated that there will be no announcement today about the new coach of the Italy national team, emphasizing the strong relationship he maintains with Roberto Mancini.

Malagò is set to participate in a Serie A Assembly in Milan today, where he will be accompanied by newly-appointed Italy technical director and his advisor, Leonardo, who will present their project to Serie A clubs.

While some Italian media speculated that the meeting with representatives from Italy’s top flight would be an ideal moment to confirm the new Italy coach’s name, Malagò clarified on Wednesday night that this would not occur.

“I don’t think the announcement will come during the Serie A assembly,” he stated via Sky.

Malagò had previously confirmed ongoing talks with Pep Guardiola just days ago. However, when asked again about Guardiola yesterday, he responded, “Don’t make me say anything.”

After participating in a five-a-side football match in Rome, Malagò spoke to reporters, sharing that he played on the same team as Roberto Mancini.

“Roberto is very humble on the pitch; he’s given us tremendous help,” Malagò remarked.

“We’re a duo that, in life, no matter what, has always been very close, and I want to say and emphasize it.”

Mancini previously served as Italy’s head coach from 2018 until 2023 and is considered a candidate for the position if Guardiola declines the FIGC offer. However, Mancini stated last night that he had not been contacted regarding a potential return.
