Borussia Dortmund Negotiates with KRC Genk for Konstantinos Karetsas

Sky Sports reports that Borussia Dortmund is currently in talks with KRC Genk regarding the transfer of attacking midfielder Konstantinos Karetsas. According to the Pay-TV channel, Dortmund has made an initial offer of approximately €30 million upfront, along with an additional €5 million in performance-related bonuses and a 20-percent sell-on clause. Genk, however, is insisting on a guaranteed €35 million, which could lead to an overall package of up to €40 million.

The two clubs were unable to reach an agreement during direct discussions earlier this week. Dortmund has not yet improved its current bid, making it unlikely that Karetsas will join the squad ahead of Sunday’s departure for the pre-season tour of Japan.

The 18-year-old player has already agreed to personal terms on a contract valid until 2031. The only remaining issue centers on the transfer fee.

As highlighted in a recent Get German Football News report, Karetsas has a skill set that Dortmund currently requires. The left-footed player mainly operates as an attacking midfielder but can also start from the right and move into central positions.

His close control, agility, and ability to navigate through tight spaces make him particularly effective in transitional play. Dortmund’s most recent offer marks a significant investment in the Greek international.

However, Genk’s firm stance leaves Dortmund with a clear choice: either meet the demands of the Belgian club or risk losing one of their primary summer targets.
