Ferran Torres’ situation at FC Barcelona remains unresolved as uncertainty over his future grows.

The possibility of the Spanish forward joining Luis Enrique’s Paris Saint-Germain gained traction during the World Cup and has only strengthened since Ferran himself refused to rule out a departure recently.

Now, according to MARCA, inside the Barça offices, the expectation is that the next move will come from either the player or the French champions.

Sporting director Deco is waiting for a call from PSG counterpart Luis Campos to determine whether the Parisians are prepared to submit a formal offer.

Despite the growing speculation, Barcelona are not particularly concerned. The club would entertain Ferran’s departure provided the financial package meets their valuation.

The asking price is clear: no less than €50 million.

World Cup boost changes little internally

Ferran’s strong World Cup campaign, capped by the goal that secured Spain’s triumph, has further enhanced his market reputation.

Inside Camp Nou, however, opinions of the player have not changed. Neither Deco nor Hansi Flick needed the tournament to recognize what Ferran can bring to the squad.

He scored 21 goals in all competitions last season, marking an impressive return. However, he also faced a goal drought lasting nearly three months, a lengthy spell for a player in his position.

Another important consideration for Barcelona is that, despite producing respectable numbers, Ferran has never established himself as an automatic starter, either under Xavi Hernandez or under Flick.

Instead, he has remained a valuable option from the bench and a reliable squad player, rather than a fixed member of the starting XI.

Renewal still on hold

This situation also explains Barcelona’s cautious approach regarding a contract extension.

Although Ferran has just one year remaining on his current deal, the club has yet to make a renewal offer, which is atypical for a player entering the final year of his contract.

The plan is to first ascertain the player’s intentions, with discussions expected either this week or next.

If Ferran opts to leave, Barcelona will negotiate his transfer. If he decides to stay, the club intends to present him with a renewal offer in September.

Recovering their investment

Barcelona’s financial goal is straightforward. The club hopes to secure between €50 million and €55 million, effectively recouping nearly the full fee they initially paid to Manchester City.

From Barcelona’s perspective, this would represent a commendable transaction after five seasons of service from the Spanish international.
