Charlton Athletic has completed the signing of seasoned midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah on a free transfer. The 31-year-old player has been training with the Addicks throughout the summer after being released from Sheffield Wednesday, where he was one of eight players let go following the club’s relegation to League One.

During the last two seasons, Chalobah made 31 appearances for the Owls, adding to his 14-year career that involves over 270 matches across clubs such as Watford, Fulham, West Bromwich Albion, and Serie A’s Torino.

Chalobah, now the Addicks’ sixth signing this summer, has also represented England at both youth and senior levels. In an interview with the club website, he expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming season, stating, “I’ve been training for a while now with the boys and it’s a good group of lads. I’m just glad the season’s about to start and we can get down to business.”

He added, “I’m looking to bring my experience not only to the young players, but to everyone in the building really to see if we can achieve something together.”

Charlton’s head coach Nathan Jones praised Chalobah’s experience, saying, “He has a wealth of experience at Championship level and higher and comes with real, real pedigree. We want to evolve so we need to add certain things, and he brings quality, real technical ability and experience that will only help the team and a lot of our younger players.”
