Setford has not featured in any of Arsenal’s pre-season matches yet. He faces competition following the arrival of Illan Meslier, who adds to Mikel Arteta’s squad of senior goalkeepers.
Although Setford trained with the first team and participated in last week’s friendly against Girona, he has yet to be part of any official pre-season squad.

With Meslier’s signing, it was suggested that this could pave the way for Setford’s loan move. The young goalkeeper has been training alongside established players such as David Raya and Kepa Arrizabalaga but has rarely seen game action.

Setford made a brief appearance as a substitute in Arsenal’s FA Cup match against Wigan Athletic, but has primarily played in a few under-21 games for both Arsenal and England.
Although he was signed for his promise, his development may stall without regular playing time.

Las Palmas, competing in the Spanish second tier, appears to offer the platform Setford needs to gain regular playing experience.
Currently, Las Palmas’ goalkeeper Dinko Horkas has drawn interest from Scottish club Celtic, although no agreement has been reached yet. If Celtic secures a deal for Horkas, it may further facilitate Setford’s transfer on loan.

Setford is yet to appear for Arsenal during pre-season, with Illan Meslier arriving to add a third senior goalkeeper to Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Setford has been in training with the team and he was with them for last week’s friendly match against Girona, but he wasn’t named in the squad for any of the pre-season games so far.

When Meslier was signed, the suggestion was that his arrival was to facilitate a loan move for Setford. The young goalkeeper worked hard alongside David Raya and Kepa Arrizabalaga in training last year, but his opportunities on the pitch were slim to non-existent.

Setford came on as a substitute for Arsenal against Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup, playing the final few minutes of the 4-0 win. Other than that, his appearances were limited for a handful of u21 showings for Arsenal and England.
The goalkeeper was signed for his potential, but he’s unlikely to achieve it if he can’t get out on the pitch and test himself.

Enter Las Palmas, who play in the Spanish second tier and are seemingly offering him that opportunity to feature regularly.
Las Palmas’ goalkeeper Dinko Horkas is the subject of interest from Scottish club Celtic, though a deal is still yet to be agreed. Should Celtic succeed in their pursuit of Horkas, that would open the door wider for Setford’s loan transfer.
