Atlanta United Shifts Focus to Alvaro Morata Following Lukaku’s Decision

MLS club Atlanta United has reportedly set its sights on Como striker Alvaro Morata after Romelu Lukaku of Napoli expressed interest in moving to Fenerbahce.

Atlanta United appears to be exploring options in Serie A to strengthen their attacking lineup this summer, yet they face challenges in attracting players to the United States.

    Atlanta United look to Morata

Recent reports indicate that Atlanta United initially targeted Lukaku, who is nearing a departure from Napoli with a transfer fee of €10 million. However, multiple sources indicate that the Belgium international prefers to remain in European football, moving closer to an agreement with Fenerbahce rather than considering a switch to Major League Soccer or the Saudi Pro League.

Transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio from Sky Sport Italia states that Atlanta United has redirected its interest towards Como’s center-forward Morata.

The 32-year-old forward, who has previously played for top clubs like Juventus, Chelsea, and Real Madrid, did not score any goals in Serie A last season. With his 34th birthday approaching in October, Morata joined Como on loan with an obligation to buy from Milan for approximately €10 to €12 million.

While securing a sale from Como should not pose an issue, persuading Morata to join Major League Soccer may prove to be more challenging.

MLS club Atlanta United has reportedly turned towards Como striker Alvaro Morata, after Romelu Lukaku of Napoli leaned towards Fenerbahce.

It would seem as if Atlanta United have their sights set on Serie A for reinforcements in attack this summer, although they are finding it difficult to tempt players over to the USA.

Their first choice had been Lukaku, who is on his way out of Napoli at a fee of €10m.

However, multiple sources report that the Belgium international wants to remain in European football, so is closer to a deal with Fenerbahce than MLS or the Saudi Pro League.

According to Sky Sport Italia transfer pundit Gianluca Di Marzio, that means Atlanta United have instead turned towards Como centre-forward Morata.

The former Juventus, Chelsea and Real Madrid striker failed to score a single goal in Serie A last season.

He is heading up for his 34th birthday in October and moved to Como on loan with an obligation to buy from Milan at circa €10-12m.

Getting Como to agree a sale would not be an issue, but convincing Morata to come to Major League Soccer might be a more difficult task.
