Arsenal’s Pursuit of Vinícius Jr. Puts Liverpool in Strong Position for Barcola

Arsenal are worried that one star will jump to Liverpool imminently. That ruins their plans.

In an extraordinary turn of events, Arsenal spent the past month attempting to secure the signing of Vinícius Jr. from Real Madrid, only to face disappointment as the Brazilian extended his contract at the Santiago Bernabéu.

It’s not surprising, to be fair. While Arsenal’s strategy to prioritize all other attacking signings for Vinícius seemed logical, one has to question whether they genuinely had a chance of landing him.

The process involved no significant buildup to a proposal; rather, it appeared that news of Arsenal’s interest coincided directly with Vinícius preparing for crucial talks with Real Madrid. This situation suggests a strategy aimed at boosting negotiation leverage in contract discussions—something Liverpool have experienced all too often.

So, how does this relate to Liverpool? Arsenal’s failed effort to sign Vinícius has left them lagging behind in the pursuit of other wingers. They are now scrambling to explore alternative options, significantly behind other clubs in the race.

The Independent reports that Arsenal aims to re-engage in the race for Bradley Barcola. However, they fear they may be too late, as Liverpool has advanced significantly in discussions with the player.

This situation forces Arsenal to explore other avenues, and as Liverpool knows all too well, the winger market is currently weak. The Reds are contemplating a €120 million investment in Barcola, who does not even secure a regular spot in Paris Saint-Germain’s starting lineup.

Nevertheless, if Barcola proves to be the top option available, Liverpool is determined to pursue his signing. Arsenal’s recent attempt to acquire Vinícius has clearly put them at a disadvantage, providing Liverpool with a prime opportunity.

However, the Reds must finalize this deal swiftly; as time passes, Arsenal could potentially catch up in the transfer race.

Arsenal are worried that one star will jump to Liverpool imminently. That ruins their plans.

Quite incredibly, Arsenal have spent the last month trying to sign Vinícius Jr from Real Madrid. They failed, with the Brazilian renewing his contract at the Santiago Bernabéu.

That’s not a shock, you’ve got to admit. While it’s entirely understandable why they felt pausing all other attacking signings was worth it for Vinicius, it’s difficult to believe that they really had a shot at getting him.

There was essentially zero buildup to a proposal and instead we all just witnessed shocked reports right at the same time the winger was about to sit down for decisive talks with Real Madrid. It just screams ‘being used to boost negotiating power in contract talks’ – which, admittedly, is something Liverpool are unfortunately very familiar with.

But what’s this got to do with the Reds? Well, Arsenal’s efforts to sign Vinicius have left them behind in the race for other wingers and they’re now racing to find alternative options while being many, many steps behind everyone else.

The Independent, for instance, report that Arsenal would like to re-enter the race for Bradley Barcola. They believe they’re a little late, however, as Liverpool are now so far along in talks with the player that it’s difficult for the Gunners to get any sort of foothold.

That would leave them looking elsewhere and as Liverpool know all too well, the winger market is not strong right now. It’s so weak, in fact, that they’re considering a €120m spend on Barcola – a player who doesn’t actually get in Paris Saint-Germain’s strongest XI.

Regardless, if Barcola is the best available then he’s the best available and Liverpool will push to sign him. Arsenal’s foray into the Vinicius mix has left them behind in this one and the Reds will hopefully take full advantage.

Now they’ve just got to get this one over the line and fast – the longer it drags on, the more ground Arsenal can make up, after all.
