Lazio Signs Davide Frattesi from Inter Milan for €15 Million with Future Sale Clause

Inter Milan has reportedly agreed to transfer Davide Frattesi to Lazio for €15 million, retaining a 50 percent share of the midfielder’s future sale fee. This decision clarifies the reduced sale price, previously set at €30 million.

Recent reports had raised questions regarding the details of the transaction between the two clubs, following the announcement of the agreement. Inter had set a minimum price tag of €30 million on Frattesi, a decrease from the €40 million they had requested last season.

Multiple sources confirmed that Lazio will sign Frattesi on loan for €1 million, with an obligation to purchase him for an additional €14 million at the end of the season if certain conditions are fulfilled.

The significant drop in price drew attention, but the reasoning for it became clearer after Sky Sport Italia and Sport Mediaset reported on the unusually high cut of the future sale fee, initially expected to be around 20 percent but now confirmed at 50 percent. This provision potentially elevates Frattesi’s total value to €30 million.

Inter hopes that regular playtime in Serie A will enhance Frattesi’s profile, allowing for a more lucrative transfer in the next summer window. The club paid €32.8 million to acquire him from Sassuolo in 2023, meaning that even with the €15 million sale, they would still generate a profit of approximately €7.5 million.

Other clubs, including Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United, and Juventus, expressed interest in Frattesi this summer but were unwilling to meet the €30 million asking price. The 27-year-old Italian international’s contract with Inter extends until June 2028.

Inter are reportedly retaining a 50 per cent cut of Davide Frattesi’s future sale fee from Lazio, explaining why he is sold for €15m and not the €30m asking price.

There had been some very raised eyebrows when the figures emerged of an agreement between the two clubs today.

All summer long, Inter have set the €30m minimum price tag on the midfielder, already a drop from the €40m they had been demanding last season.

Suddenly, multiple sources confirmed Lazio had agreed to sign the player on loan for €1m with obligation to buy at the end of the season if certain conditions are met for a further €14m.

This was a huge drop, but the discrepancy was explained this afternoon when Sky Sport Italia, Sport Mediaset and more all acknowledged the cut of the future sale fee was unusually large.

Initially suspected to be 20 per cent, it is now confirmed at being 50 per cent, which would raise the value of the player to €30m.

Inter hope that Frattesi can raise his profile by playing regularly in Serie A, therefore earning a bigger transfer next summer.

The Nerazzurri paid €32.8m to buy him from Sassuolo in 2023, so considering amortisation, selling at €15m would still generate a profit of around €7.5m.

Other clubs had shown an interest this summer, including Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United and even Juventus, but did not seem prepared to pay the €30m.

The Italy international turns 27 next month and his contract with Inter runs to June 2028.
