Barcelona Faces Challenges in Pursuit of Rodri Amid Manchester City Demands

Barcelona’s efforts to secure midfielder Rodri are proving more complicated than anticipated. Despite the player’s willingness to join the Catalans for the upcoming season, the club struggles to meet Manchester City’s financial demands.

The Spanish giants have had two offers for Rodri rejected, as Manchester City insists on a cash payment of at least €70 million for the talented midfielder.

Rodri Open to Staying at Manchester City

As this transfer saga continues, journalist Mark McAdam provides an important update on Rodri’s situation. The player’s contract with Manchester City is set to expire next summer. According to McAdam, Rodri maintains a strong level of respect for Manchester City and understands the club’s rationale behind the high asking price.

The Etihad club has communicated to Rodri that he is free to consider his options this summer. However, unless they receive their desired fee, they will not sell him. Rodri has acknowledged City’s position and expressed his readiness to remain with the team for another year if Barcelona is unable to present an acceptable offer. It’s worth noting that he will become a free agent next summer if he does not transfer before then.

Barcelona aims to sell Ferran Torres to help finance the move for Rodri. Reports indicate that the Torres sale could be finalized soon, possibly today or tomorrow, following negotiations with PSG. Once that transaction is complete, Barcelona hopes to strengthen their position in negotiations with Manchester City regarding Rodri’s transfer.

The potential exit of Torres raises questions about Barcelona’s strategies to fill the striker role, as it would mean Hansi Flick would lack a natural number nine. Nonetheless, the Catalans remain focused on securing the Rodri deal as negotiations progress.

Barcelona’s pursuit of Rodri is not looking as bright as it did about a week ago.

Although Rodri is prepared to join the Catalans this coming season, Barcelona have faced difficulties matching Manchester City’s demands for the midfielder.

The club have already had their two bids rejected by Man City, who want a cash payment of at least €70 million for the Spanish international.

The Sky Sports journalist claims that Rodri has mutual respect for Manchester City and understands why the club are holding out for such a high value.

Man City have informed Rodri that he is free to leave the club this summer. But if they do not receive their desired value, they will not sell him.

Rodri understands this position from Manchester City and informed the club that he is prepared to remain at Etihad for the next 12 months if Barcelona fail to offer the right price.

It must be noted that Rodri would become a free agent next summer, as his contract at Etihad expires at the end of the coming season.

Barcelona are open to improving their offer for Rodri, but it all depends on timing and when exactly the Ferran Torres sale gets finalised.

Reports across Spain have claimed that Barcelona should be able to wrap up the Rodri deal once money from the PSG coffers flow through for Ferran.

The Torres move is expected to be finalised either today or tomorrow, after which Barcelona may have a better position in terms of their negotiations with Manchester City.

What will be interesting to see is how the Catalans manage to sign a new striker, given that Ferran’s exit will leave Hansi Flick without any natural number nine.

Nevertheless, for now, Barcelona will try to get the Rodri deal over the line.
