VfL Wolfsburg Secures Chelsea Forward Mara Alber on Loan for 2026/2027 Season

VfL Wolfsburg, a club in the German Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga, has officially signed Chelsea forward Mara Alber on a loan deal for the upcoming 2026/2027 season. The club confirmed this development earlier today through a post on their official website.

The 20-year-old Alber returns to her home country of Germany with the intention of gaining regular competitive football experience. Over the past five years, she has consistently played in the German top flight and will continue her growth at this level.

Alber joined Chelsea from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim last summer but has struggled to make a significant impact with The Blues. Last season, she spent the latter half on loan at Werder Bremen.

Internationally, Alber has represented Germany at various youth levels, including the Under-23 team.

Following her loan move to VfL Wolfsburg, Alber expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “VfL Wolfsburg are a big club in women’s football and still have big ambitions, so I didn’t have to think twice when the opportunity arose to join VfL on loan. I’m particularly looking forward to working with Stephan Lerch again, having already played under him at Hoffenheim.”

She added, “For now, it’s about settling in and integrating as quickly as possible, so that I can help the team straight away. My aim is to go as far as possible with VfL in all three competitions.”

At parent club Chelsea, Alber is viewed as a promising talent for the future.

On the international stage, Alber has represented Germany at various youth levels up to and including Under-23 level.

After sealing her loan move to VfL Wolfsburg, Alber said “VfL Wolfsburg are a big club in women’s football and still have big ambitions, so I didn’t have to think twice when the opportunity arose to join VfL on loan.
