Jersey Bulls faced elimination from the FA Trophy following a dramatic penalty shootout against Hayes and Yeading United, which ended a 2-2 deadlock after regulation time.

The match saw the London side advance 4-1 on penalties, moving forward from the preliminary round in a captivating encounter.

The young island team got off to a strong start, with Sammy Henia-Kamau skillfully putting the Bulls ahead 1-0 in the eighth minute, courtesy of a well-placed pass from debutant Luke Lister.

Hayes and Yeading, temporarily hosting the match due to construction at Springfield, almost leveled the score just four minutes later when Amari Fashanu hit the post with a powerful strike.

Former Swansea City and Hull City player Henia-Kamau continued to create opportunities but was unable to add to the tally as the first half progressed. Tomas Goncalves had a close call with a shot that barely cleared the crossbar, while both Jack Lumsden and Lister saw their attempts thwarted, leaving the score at 1-0 heading into halftime.

Less than a minute into the second half, Hayes and Yeading found the equalizer, with Dernell Wynter scoring from close range after a deflected cross found him in the box.

Following the goal, Josh Edwards and Ben Schroll created solid chances for Hayes to take the lead, but the Bulls defended tenaciously.

Against the flow of play, Jersey managed to regain the lead with 13 minutes remaining, as Casey Nixon executed a one-two with substitute Darryl Mvalo before his deflected shot found the back of the net.

However, just two minutes later, the match was leveled again at 2-2 when Gianni Critchlow delivered a well-placed cross to the back post, where Brendan Matthew was waiting to head it into the net.

Tomas Goncalves saw a dipping effort just clear the hosts crossbar while Jack Lumsden and Lister had efforts saved as Bulls looked for a second in the final five minutes before the break.

The hosts needed less than a minute of the second half to equalise as Dernell Wynter scored from six yards after a deflected cross fell into his path.

Josh Edwards and Ben Schroll had good chances to give Hayes the lead soon after as the islanders defended desperately.

But with 13 minutes left Bulls went ahead against the run of play, as Casey Nixon played a one-two with substitute Darryl Mvalo before seeing his deflected strike sneak in.

Less than two minutes later however it was 2-2 – the impressive Gianni Critchlow got to the byeline and floated a ball into the back post for the unmarked Brendan Matthew to head in.

Seanie McColgan somehow headed wide when free for Jersey with seven minutes left, before Jarma Mohamed was sent off for a second booking less than a minute later.

The game went to penalties but Henia-Kamau and Lumsden missed Bulls’ first two kicks as the hosts went 2-0 up.

The island side scored their third kick but the hosts were faultless as Matthew made no mistake with their fourth effort to win the tie.
