Linfield Secures Crucial Victory Against Glentoran in Belfast Derby
In a vital encounter on Saturday, Linfield reclaimed their form with a 2-1 victory over Glentoran at Windsor Park, following a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Ballymena United in their season opener. The win provides a much-needed boost for Linfield and raises questions about Glentoran’s consistency this season.

Healy is no stranger to the pressure that comes with managing the Irish League’s most successful club during his 11-year tenure at the club.

No one can question his impressive run as Blues boss with six Irish Premiership titles and two Irish Cup triumphs chalked up during his time so far.
But, after last weekend, many questions had been asked around the club’s summer recruitment and inability to find an investor to help them compete with other full-time clubs in the league.
“No, absolutely not,” Healy replied when asked did he feel the pressure in the build-up to the game.
“Credit to the players, there were a lot of questions asked and, as always, there were a lot of questions asked of me after the performance and result last week, rightly or wrongly. I would suggest wrongly, but that’s my opinion.

A derby is the perfect game to try and build your season from with not only three points on the line, but bragging rights as well.
A negative result in the ‘Big Two’ and pressure would have been building on Linfield from an already frustrated fanbase.
But it was the home side who made a bright start to the game and broke the deadlock through Darragh Leahy on 18 minutes before Kirk Millar’s strong shot extended their lead in the second half.

Jordan Stewart netted late on for the Glens, but their goalscorer was sent off as the side tried to push for a late goal.
It was not a classic in terms of the number of goalscoring chances, but Matthew Fitzpatrick and Adam Frizzell’s ability to push Linfield up the pitch will have pleased their supporters.
Offord was unlucky not to score, with Billy Crellin forced to make multiple good saves to deny the striker a goal which would certainly help his confidence after returning from a long-term injury.
It was a frantic afternoon for goalscorer Leahy, whose poor back pass almost cost the Blues a goal in the opening minutes before he headed home the opener.

The defender then made a great block to deny the Glens as they pushed for a goal and was then poorly challenged by Stewart, who was shown a red card for the foul.

It was a challenging afternoon for the Glens, who struggled to test home goalkeeper Chris Johns and looked much less convincing than they did the previous week against Limavady.
Cammy Palmer’s departure from the club in the summer has left major boots to fill in midfield and it is unclear who will replace him.
Stewart may have scored in both games this season, but the side will now be without him for three games following his red card.

That will be a concern for the east Belfast side, who are already without big names such as last year’s top goalscorer Pat Hoban, stopper Andrew Mills and former Crusaders captain Jarlath O’Rourke through injury.
Manager Declan Devine was certainly not impressed by his side’s performance and questioned their lack of hunger, but he added that there was no longer term concern following the lacklustre display.
“Fair play to David, they got the result today and I know what pressure is about,” Devine told BBC Sport.
“I have managed big clubs all throughout my career and I know the expectations and I know the consequences long-term if things don’t go well. But I know if I keep working hard and getting the team to work hard I’ll see a much better improvement.

“We have a good side here and a good harmony amongst the group, so I am not concerned about the long-term future.
“I am more concerned about the here and now, we let 97 minutes pass us by and we did not lay a glove on Linfield and we must be much better.”
Ballymena fail to build on Blues win
After stealing the headlines last weekend, Ballymena were on the wrong side of a reverse at Seaview on Saturday.
Their 3-0 thrashing of Linfield has now been overshadowed by a disappointing 2-1 defeat by Crusaders.
