Liverpool Secures Solid 2-0 Victory Over Como in Pre-Season Finale

Jeremy Jacquet marked his Liverpool debut with a goal as the team concluded pre-season with a 2-0 win against Serie A’s Como. The 21-year-old centre-back, who joined the club for £60 million in January and officially confirmed his move on July 1, had previously been sidelined due to a knee injury before participating in the match against Como, managed by Cesc Fabregas.

Jacquet demonstrated his capabilities early in the game, making confident plays and executing precise challenges. He capped off an impressive first appearance by tapping in a cross from Cody Gakpo just before half-time, doubling Liverpool’s lead to 2-0 in the 44th minute.

The addition of Jacquet to the starting lineup is a welcome change for Liverpool, who had faced defensive struggles with recent defeats resulting in seven goals conceded against Leeds United and Monaco.

Jacquet was substituted for fellow debutant Ronald Araujo at the half. Manager Andoni Iraola will likely take encouragement from the opening 45 minutes, particularly with Jeremie Frimpong’s contribution leading to Gakpo’s opening goal in the 23rd minute.

In a less eventful second half, Ryan Gravenberch nearly added a third goal when his shot struck the crossbar following strong play by Victor Munoz.

With the pre-season now concluded, Liverpool has a week to prepare for their Premier League opener against Newcastle at St James’ Park, scheduled for Sunday at 16:30 BST.

Jeremy Jacquet scored on his Liverpool debut as Andoni Iraola’s Reds capped off pre-season with a 2-0 win over Serie A side Como.

After agreeing the £60m transfer for Jacquet in January, the 21-year-old Frenchman’s move was confirmed on 1 July but a niggling knee injury had kept him on the sidelines until the visit of Cesc Fabregas’ Como.

The centre-back impressed in the early stages with some confident play, timing last-ditch challenges expertly.

He rounded off a brilliant first appearance in red with a tap-in from Cody Gakpo’s cross to put Liverpool into a 2-0 lead in the 44th minute.

The arrival of Jacquet in the starting XI will ease Liverpool’s defensive worries after conceding seven goals in defeats by Leeds United and Monaco before this clean sheet.

The France Under-21 international was replaced by another debutant, Ronald Araujo, at half-time.

Iraola will be encouraged by what he witnessed in the first half, with good work from Jeremie Frimpong resulting in a fine Gakpo finish to give Liverpool a 23rd-minute lead.

Ryan Gravenberch came closest to scoring in a lacklustre second half when he clipped the top of the crossbar following fine play by Victor Munoz.

Liverpool now have a week to prepare for the start of their Premier League campaign when they will face Newcastle at St James’ Park (Sunday, 16:30 BST).
