Feyenoord Secures Loan Deal for Javi Lopez from Real Sociedad
Feyenoord has announced the signing of Javi Lopez on loan from Real Sociedad. The agreement for the 24-year-old left-back also includes an option for Feyenoord to make the move permanent, as coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst navigates through injuries affecting players Jordan Bos and Gijs Smal.
Lopez hails from Tenerife and transitioned from the Blanquiazules’ youth division to Deportivo Alaves’ academy. During his time there, he made 92 appearances over four years, finding the back of the net once.
In the summer of 2024, Real Sociedad acquired Lopez for around 6.5 million euros. However, his opportunities to play diminished despite making 29 league appearances in the 2024-25 season. Most recently, Lopez spent last season on loan with Real Oviedo.
Feyenoord welcomes Lopez as their third Spanish player, following Nacho Ferri, who joined from Westerlo, and Mika Marmol, who came from Las Palmas.
In a statement to the club’s media, Lopez expressed his excitement, saying, “It makes me proud to play for a big and ambitious club like Feyenoord. I can’t wait to join the group, because I want to be of value to the club, my teammates, and the supporters as soon as possible. I will give everything in this shirt to experience great moments and successes together.”
