Headline: Olympique Lyonnais and Fenerbahçe Draw 1-1 in UEFA Champions League Qualifier

Olympique Lyonnais and Fenerbahçe ended their UEFA Champions League qualifier’s first leg in Istanbul with a 1-1 draw. Both teams will decide their fate next week at the Groupama Stadium.

Lois Openda put Lyon ahead with a close-range header just before halftime. However, Mason Greenwood, a former Olympique de Marseille forward, equalized early in the second half with a curled shot into the top corner. The match was closely contested, with both teams creating opportunities to secure a win.

Openda nearly scored again, hitting the post with a shot from outside the box. The home side also came close, as Nene Doregles cut back onto his right foot but saw his shot strike Dominik Greif’s near post. With no winner found, both teams will return to Lyon next week, tied and vying for a spot in next season’s Champions League.

Olympique Lyonnais and Fenerbahçe are all square following the first leg of their UEFA Champions League qualifier in Istanbul (1-1). Both sides’ fate will be decided next week at the Groupama Stadium.

Lois Openda opened the scoring for Lyon with a close-range header just before the end of the first-half. However, with a curled effort into the top corner, former Olympique de Marseille forward Mason Greenwood levelled the score early in the second half. In what was an evenly fought contest between the two sides, both had chances to secure a winner.

Openda went close again, dragging a shot onto the post from outside the box. The hosts would also strike the post, however, before the final whistle. It was Nene Doregles who checked back onto his right foot and then dragged his shot onto Dominik Greif’s near post. Neither side would find the winner, meaning that the sides will head back to Lyon next week with the scores all square and a place in next season’s Champions League on the line.
